Girl Power

Today is Women’s Day and every message, image and video on my mother’s Whatsapp and every post on my WordPress reader feeder is dedicated to it. As it happens, today is one of my close cousin sister’s birthday as well. She lives up to it without flaws, for she’s a strong and brave young lady with a unique mind of her own. In our family girl squad, we have an affinity to buy same clothes and accessories for any particular occasion sometimes. The motto for it is if we can’t get the same colour, we at least fixate upon the same style.

But this girl here takes careful care in selecting an asset that doesn’t bear even a trivial resemblance to our choice. She loves to stand out. She loves being her own person. You’re a special element to our girl world, baby sis 😛 ❤ I actually admire you.

I’m proud you highlight today’s occasion.

So this is what I decided to post today.

The women I’ve admired all my life till now.

Along with my sister, here are the other ladies that have inspired me:

JK ROWLING:

j-k-rowling

No words.

She was the one to make me fall in love with writing and her every sentences inscribed in the pages of her legendary seven book saga have been the source for my author spark. But that’s not the only reason I love her.

She is a ray of sunshine.

Who made difficult and agonising times in her life a positive influence to create something new for her Harry.

A lone train journey produced an idea for the story that now owns the pedestal of the literary world.

A heated fight with her boyfriend roused the design for the famous broomstick sport, Quidditch.

A traumatic aftermath of the death of her beloved mother gave birth to the Dementors of Azkaban.

If I were to list everything she made positive in her life, I’ll keep you here for the rest of the day. So I’ll stop with that and nail down my love for Joanne Kathleen Rowling by saluting her for stimulating the talent within me and making me believe that the battles I will fight in life will never be lost.

Thank you, JK, I love you.

TAYLOR SWIFT:

She is my favourite singer of all time and will continue to do so till the very end.

Taylor’s music keeps me going everyday. I don’t listen to her only when I feel down or lonely. I listen to her when I’m happy and chirpy too, which is most of the time 🙂 I sing her songs in the shower. I strum her songs on my guitar. She was the one to lighten up another passion of mine, which is to play the stringed wonder. My brother attended guitar classes back in junior school and it lay up on the shelf collecting dust for two years before I took it down and looked up the tutorial for Love Story on YouTube.

And from there, I strived to master several other songs of hers. Stunningly, my parents bought me a new guitar for my eighteenth birthday, which is a beautiful black acoustic that holds a throne in my room 🙂 Due to my obsession with writing, I had to stow it back in the box and put it up on the loft, where it lay forgotten for two years now. But then, just last week, I got fuelled at the sight of it and immediately took it down. It was horrifying to see I’d forgotten how to play all the songs I learnt but I know I’ll recall them soon enough 🙂

Taylor had a long journey in the world of music. Just like everyone with dreams, she crashed headlong into several rejecting barriers. But that didn’t stop her from fighting for herself. She bled her fingers by learning guitar all by herself when she was young. She sang so many songs and begged radio stations to air them. She put her heart and soul into her song writing.

And now she’s America’s Sweetheart.

You’re also Deepika’s Sweetheart, Tay-Tay ❤

I look up to Taylor for her perseverance, her belief in herself, and how she doesn’t care about criticism. The focus is to play your passion and bring it out. Haters gonna hate, but I’m just gonna shake, is her motto.

DRAUPADI:

tumblr_n8dfgzhtK91sktyoeo1_250

The Goddess of Bravery.

She is the most renowned character of the Mahabharata, pillaring the entire epic by giving birth to feminism and demanding female rights. Like a fire, she storms around the crowded court of arrogant and ignorant men by consuming all of the ethics they commend themselves of but fail to exhibit right when it was needed.

She gets called a prostitute.

She gets jeered at while being dragged callously across the floor by her pure hair.

She gets called to sit on another man’s lap, who states he could be another husband of hers.

She is desired to be disrobed in full view of the court.

Of all the nerve of machismo.

One more disgusting word from anyone sitting there and she would have burned down the entire city.

Draupadi put all of her faith in Lord Krishna and the divine sight of the endless cloth covering her while the obscene moron pulled at her sari was all the proof everyone needed to realise her chaste virtue and integrity, getting slapped in the face.

She stands as a symbol for the courage in every women today. I look upto Draupadi for that, praying to her when I feel weak and vulnerable. As a devout of Lord Krishna myself, she will not like me being afraid. Draupadi has always been the rock of my conscience.

MUM:

And the grand finale to my list is my mother ❤

Mum, I love how you boost my confidence day by day by soothing away each and every pain I receive from rejecting letters or worries about my future life. You keep me together with your smile and calming words and the very feel of your hand in my hair as I snuggle into your lap destroys the anxieties my heart falters with.

You have had a warrior’s journey yourself, one where you have gone through so much I can never think of withstanding and even as you still bear anguish that have been caused by appalling sources, you stand rigid with valour, taking no nonsense from anyone and bashing things that threaten your peace and patience.

I love how you clear away impeding hurdles by excellent reactions. You stay calm and composed, watching the drama going on, but when it crosses the line, the glower in your eyes and your rage will always shut the unbearable annoyance up.

I admire your strength, your clever wisdom, your infinite passion for the people you love and care for, your ignorance of nonsensical people, and your methods of setting things right.

And most of all, I love how you love me ❤ Rapping my head hard when I need it, and at the same time, laughing in adoration at my silly little stunts ❤ You secure me in your love every second of each day that passes by.

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Along with my wishes to my favourite women listed up there, I extend my wishes to my girl squad of WordPress.

Neerja Di, Nimika, Sri Di, Kavya and Jen, a very happy women’s day to you ❤ I’m really happy to have discovered you angels through this beautiful blogging world and make you a part of my life.

HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY to everyone!

Jai Shree Krishna

Lots of love,

Deepika

Wow Deepika. . Such a beautiful post. . And your cousin haha.. Ditto my sister. . She also wants to stand out from others. J K Rowling, her life was very tough and full of struggle. Even though she succeeded and won our hearts. And seeing Draupadi here (not the actress :P) I felt proud of her. She is inspiration to many. And there are many women in my life I admire the most (Not mentioning names though). Even though they have faced a lot they never showed it on face. I love them all. Women forms the base for the world upon which everything grows. Thanks for this post. Sri, Nimi, Neerja and Jennifer I know them. They are awesome. Have a good time. . 🙂
